HOO2: The Devil and Gasoline David Aaron DeSoto With a writing style similar Tom Waits, David Aaron DeSoto has produced a blues album full of genuine wit and stylish lyricism. Accompanied usually by guitar, DeSoto’s blues are rhythmic and orchestrated to perfection. With a message of a true bluesman, DeSoto carries his music to his listeners delivering surprises at every turn of his songs. Seamless transitions and a visionary voice to match. Well done! Tr. 1: Ghost in the Study – This track is an excellent choice for the beginning of this CD. The track itself opens up with a ephemeral guitar pastoral and moves into a fast pace acoustic session. Great harmonies and a distinct vocal tonality are underscored by a moving guitar. Tr. 4: Dead Man Walking – An excellent choice of blues that would go well with any drink. Song writing skills similar to Tom Waites—longing for elation and full of energy. This track can only be compared, if at all, to last track. Killer track also with electric accompaniment. Tr. 5: The Devil and Gasoline – An extremely unique original. Intense story and climactic set down ending. Fantastic! Reviewed by Ron Ingalla at Bryan Farrish Radio Promotion |

Los Angeles, CA – David Aaron DeSoto’s sophomore release, “Hoo2: The Devil and Gasoline,” is igniting the hearts of music listeners. DeSoto’s fiery but stripped-down acoustic blues has an edge you’d never expect from music with such regard for the traditional. Contemporary singer-songwriter, acoustic indie rock, Dylanesque counterculture folk attitude and spicy vintage me-and-my-guitar blues come to life phoenix-like in “Hoo2: The Devil and Gasoline,” the new album from DeSoto. A burning spirit is ignited when DeSoto’s fingers touch the guitars and his heartfelt, sometimes-aching, sometimes-tender vocals spring forth. The music brings a whole new, un-ignorable resonance to song long forgotten by the over-produced world of radio singles. His music is direct, full of the bared heart, exposed sinews and sun-drenched bones of real hurt and real hope; DeSoto never shies away from honest emotion. Both raw and refined, DeSoto’s sound is built on fearlessness, melody and the ache of the human condition – all backed up by a vital personality and an inner fervor present in few artists. His eclecticism manifests under a singular personality; his music is focused yet broad in scope. And his songs are always written from pure reality. “People and conversations and memories inspire me,” he says. “Hoo2,” says DeSoto, “was a gargantuan project. The album has sixteen new tracks and five additional bonus tracks. ‘Hoo2’ is ‘Hoowrecker’ [DeSoto’s debut] on steroids, in terms of sound, guitar playing and sonic boundaries. My engineer and I didn’t just push the envelope – we knocked it to the ground and ran off with its lunch money!” DeSoto earned a Kweevak listener’s choice award in 2006 for his first album. But such awards are not his greatest glory. “The best acclaim and highest praise, however, comes from the individual listeners who have sent me messages after listening to ‘Hoowrecker.’” DeSoto is in the process of composing his next album. He is currently working with A&R Select, the premier A&R firm based out of Los Angeles, CA. More information is available by visiting www.promofm.com/david_aaron_desoto and www.arselect.com. |
