“Music has the power to move me to all extremes of the human emotional spectrum,” explains Douglas Bischoff, owner and operator of Ceridwen Productions, an audio and video production company located in Providence Forge, Virginia. For Bischoff, music is more than just notes and rhythms; he believes “A melody can evoke tears of despair or tears of joy.”

Bischoff’s degree in electronic music and his composition work for Celtic rock band Coyote Run merely hint at the diversity of his musical interests. As a song-writer, his style can best be described as “a fusion of orchestral, electronic, and ethnic instrumental music,” combining a variety of instruments, from the common – guitar – to the extraordinary – udu. Indeed, this artist focuses on crossing the boundaries of both genre and ethnicity within his craft.

Not only does Bischoff express his talent through song-writing for such projects as video game and short film soundtracks, he demonstrates the depths of his musical abilities through his work on the stage and in the studio. On the stage, he can be found touring with Coyote Run, playing bagpipes, guitar, Irish whistle, didgeridoo, and an array of other instruments, in addition to singing both lead and backup vocals. In the studio, he engineered the band’s newest album, “Between Wick and Flame,” for which he also provided orchestral arrangements. Furthermore, their sixth album, “Places,” includes a special DVD featuring video by Ceridwen Productions.

In addition, Bischoff uses his skills to help other musicians in recording their music. Celtic group Faire Enough, for example, took its debut effort to Ceridwen Productions for recording, mixing and mastering, and Bischoff is currently engineering an album for Run Wild Records, for which he will be doing backing vocals, guitar, didgeridoo and orchestral arrangement.

The scope of Bischoff’s appreciation for the power of music presents itself in every aspect of his work; for him, it is the message of the music that is important: “Each person's interpretation of what they hear will be filtered through their personal experiences and tastes, but a well-crafted piece will speak to a fundamental truth that cuts across cultural boundaries: the apex of which is a universal message.”
